We need your help. Here’s why:
Our mission is to provide weekend food during the school year for Davis children who may otherwise go without. The only qualification to participate in this program is participation in the Federal Free and Reduced Meal Program. For some of these kids, their breakfast and lunch at school are the only hot meals they will have for the day during the week and weekend meals are scarce.
How it Works
Each Friday morning a small team of volunteers fill bags with canned food, oatmeal, cereal, popcorn, jerky and snacks. These bags are discreetly placed in qualifying children’s backpacks at the end of the day.
The food is bought from local retailers and it costs about $100 per student every year. This year Davis has over 100 students receiving bags every week.
The program is funded through donation from Davis families, generous community members, and the Davis PTA.
