Davis Players Presents: The Wizard of Oz – The Deleted Scene
When: Friday, April 26 @ 6:30-8PM and Saturday, April 27 @ 2-3:30PM
Where: Davis Cafeteria
Ever think what would have happened if Dorothy didn’t immediately follow the celebrated yellow brick road? Playwright, Eddie McPherson, takes our favorite story on a delightful detour when Dorothy is sidetracked by a farmer offering an alternate route to the wizard’s front door — in the form of a mysterious map. Glinda the Good is furious. After all, she wants to be a storybook hero, and the story will be ruined if Dorothy doesn’t meet her three friends along the yellow brick road. Meanwhile, the Wicked Witch of the West is thrilled with the alternative route, which will rewrite the story and possibly save her from her watery fate. As the power hungry Wicked Witch of the West fights against Glinda’s dreams of fame, Dorothy discovers that the shortcut doesn’t even take her to the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It takes her to the Mediocre Wizard of the South Swamp! Cameo appearances by Hansel and Gretel, Jack and Jill, a Munchkin TV reporter and more add to the hilarity of this clever parody that’s fun for all ages.
Welcome to the Davis Players 2018-2019 season! Davis Players is the 5th grade drama club, run by parent volunteers and filled with students interested in learning more about theater arts. This program is open to ALL 5th graders who are willing to commit their time, effort and a positive attitude to prepare for the performance. Parents are required to volunteer at least 2 of the dates and sign up for a sub-committee (coaching, costumes, hair/makeup, etc..). The club includes workshops including improv and theater games to promote students’ understanding of basic stagecraft (movement and voice), the tryouts, and a full script read-through. Mandatory rehearsals begin in January, every Sunday 2-4pm (except for holidays), through late April. The season will conclude with a final performance on April 26th and April 27th.
No part is too big and no part is too small! The Davis Players will provide students an opportunity to build self-confidence and creative problem-solving skills. The production of the spring play is part of this process, but the focus is on building a team and working together in a creative way. Should you choose to participate, both students and parents will be required to sign a contract.
